Trains to Florence
Trains in Italy are a convenient way to travel, with a number of companies offering domestic and international train routes. Florence's main train station is the Firenze Santa Maria Novella Station, one of the busiest of Italy, which is conveniently located in the Old Town. The station is on the Bologna-Florence high-speed route operated by Trenitalia, as well as on regional lines running to the towns of Pisa and Livorno. Trains to Florence also arrive at Firenze Campo Marte, located conveniently for the Stadio Artemio Franchi and the smaller Firenze Rifredi Station. Firenze Campo Marte is located to the south of the city and serves commuters coming into Florence from surrounding districts, as well as some inter-city, international and express trains, operated by Trenitalia. Firenze Rifredi, to the North of the city, is the smallest of Florence's three stations. Rifredi is on the same regional and high-speed train lines as Santa Maria Novella. All three stations are served by local buses operated by ATAF, while Santa Maria Novella is also linked to the city center by Florence's single tram line.
Florence is a beautiful city, full of culture and history, whose centre is compact enough to make exploring by foot enjoyable. In between visiting Florence's wealth of museums, galleries, and ancient buildings, visitors can relax in the city's restaurants, cafes, and wine bars, or in the pretty green spaces dotted around. Florence's top sight is probably the Duomo Cathedral, finished only in the late 19th century after 600 years of construction. The Duomo's terracotta dome is visible from much of Florence. The city's al-fresco life centres on the Piazza della Signoria, edged by the beautiful medieval Palazzo Vecchio, while other must see attractions are the atmospheric Ponte Vecchio and world-class art in the Uffizi Gallery.
