    Renfe AVE offers Promo, Promo+, Flexible, and Mesa (table for 4) fares. Renfe AVE also offers Preferente (1st Class), Turista (2nd Class), and Turista Plus (Premium 2nd Class) tickets for each fare type.

Children under 14 years old recieve a 40% discount on Renfe AVE train tickets. Children under 6 years old travel for free on Cercanias trains if they do not occupy a seat. On Catalonia Commuter trains, the ticket policy for children is determined by the local transportation authority.


    No check-in is required for Renfe AVE trains.


    Renfe offers discounted fares for travellers who have a Gold Card ("Tarjeta Dorada"), a Youth Card ("Carné Joven"), or a Card + Young Renfe 50 supplement ("Tarjeta + Renfe Joven 50"). Trains from Madrid to Barcelona

Trains in Spain are an efficient way to travel between cities. All trains traveling from Madrid to Barcelona are operated by Renfe, Spain's national train company. There are usually around 30 trains leaving Madrid for Barcelona every day. Renfe's high-speed AVE trains take between 2½ and 3:10 hours to arrive in Barcelona. Some local services from Madrid to Barcelona can take up to 9½ hours but are usually significantly cheaper than AVE trains.

What are the departure and arrival stations for trains from Madrid to Barcelona?

Departure Station: Madrid Puerta de Atocha Station is centrally located and is within walking distance of Madrid historic center and its major art galleries. This attractive old station contains a tropical garden and a pond full of terrapins. Madrid has one of the best public transport systems in the world and the second largest Underground network after London, so getting around the city by Metro, bus or Cercania train is easy. Puerta de Atocha is on Line 1 of the Metro and well served by local buses and taxis. Night buses, known as Búhos (owls), run every twenty minutes.

Arrival Station: Barcelona with its distinct barrios is full of history, architecture and culture, as well as having a lively night-life. Barcelona Sants Station is to the South-West of the city and a ten-minute Metro ride on Lines 5 or 3 into the historic center. Barcelona has an efficient and well-integrated transport system, with tickets that cover trains, buses, and Metros. There is a night bus service and taxi ranks are located outside Sants Station.
