    No, children under 4 years old do not require a ticket on regular Renfe trains if the child sits on an adult's lap. A ticket should be purchased if a seat is needed. Children under 4 years old travelling on Renfe AVE, Long Distance and Avant trains must have a free child's ticket.


    No check-in is required for Renfe trains. However, boarding control closes 2 minutes before the train departs.


    Renfe offers discounted fares for travellers who have a Gold Card ("Tarjeta Dorada"), a Youth Card ("Carné Joven"), or a Card + Young Renfe 50 supplement ("Tarjeta + Renfe Joven 50"). The Gold Card is for travellers over 60 years old, pensioners, and people with disabilities. The Youth Card is for travellers between 14 and 25 years old, while the Card + Young Renfe 50 discount is for travellers who have a youth card and have purchased the an additional €50 supplement.

Trains in Spain are a convenient way to travel between cities, with a number of companies offering domestic and international train routes. Trains traveling from Barcelona to Madrid are operated by Renfe, Spain's national train company. There are usually 20-30 trains traveling from Barcelona to Madrid per day. All trains are direct. Most Barcelona to Madrid trains are operated by the high-speed Renfe AVE trains, which take between 2:30 and 3:10 hours to arrive at Madrid's Atocha train station. Rare journeys use slower regional trains, which take approximately 9 hours to arrive at Madrid's Chamartin train station. These journeys on regional trains are usually significantly cheaper than traveling on AVE trains.

What are the departure and arrival stations for trains from Barcelona to Madrid?

Departure Stations: Most trains from Barcelona to Madrid leave from Barcelona Sants station, but some services can also depart from Barcelona Passeig De Gracia. Both stations are centrally located and easy to reach - Barcelona Sants, the city's main transport hub, is well served by local taxis and also has a large car park for travelers driving to the station. The station also lies on two branches of Barcelona's Metro system, Blue Line L5 and Green Line L3.

Arrival Stations: Madrid Atocha station is the main termination point for trains from Barcelona to Madrid.
