Since 1984, Gatwick Express has been operating a non-stop service between London Victoria Station and Gatwick Airport, and has become renowned for its fast and frequent connections. Trains depart every 15 minutes, taking just 30 minutes to connect the airport to central London.
The platform to the Gatwick Airport station is positioned directly beneath the South Terminal so customers just have an escalator ride up into the terminal and can be at check-in in no time. Transferring between terminals at Gatwick is quick and easy; the inter-terminal transit shuttle service operates 24 hours a day between the North and South terminals and takes just two minutes.
Though London Victoria Station itself is open at all hours, the first train departs from the city centre to the airport at 03:30 and 04:30. Passengers should be aware that the doors above platforms 13 and 14 are open only from 03:15 until 00:15.
Gatwick Express uses a fleet of newly refurbished 442 model trains. Accommodation in Express Class (Standard) is comfortable, modern and air-conditioned, with large luggage racks and a range of drinks and light refreshments. First Class interiors include reclining seats and complimentary newspapers, tea, coffee, and water is offered to passengers. A trolley service operates between 06:00 and 20:00 Monday to Saturday and 06:00 until 19:00 on Sundays.
Purchasing online is the best way to buy Gatwick Express train tickets. A standard return ticket costs £31.05 but there are other types of tickets available with various special offers. Gatwick Express now accepts railcards online, helping passengers save more money on the already discounted online price.
